Frohnaulauf 2022 – with icy winds to record numbers

On Sunday, April 4th, 2022, the time had finally come: The 36th edition of the traditional Frohnaulauf took place. The Corona regulations made it possible for the event to run without admission and verification controls. All participants could see the anticipation and sometimes excitement that the running season can start again “as usual” in competition mode.

This could be deduced in advance from the number of registrations, which is why it didn’t take long before we were able to break the registration record of 2019 with 750 registered participants. So we can now happily announce that for the first time this year there were 899 registrations for the Frohnaulauf. This result alone shows the role that the Frohnaulauf has now taken on in the running and event scene in Berlin-Reinickendorf.

But since not everything can always go as you wish and imagine, the weather provided a cold surprise for everyone present at the start of the season. With icy temperatures around 3°C and initially even a few snowflakes, hopes for a friendly and sunny start to the season finally fell. But since we as runners deal with different weather or environmental changes in every run, it didn’t take long until we got used to the temperatures and the participants filled the polo field in Schönfliesser Str. in large numbers.

After all late registrations had been recorded, the children’s runs (1,200m and 1,800m) started punctually at 10:00 a.m., after they unfortunately had to be canceled in 2021 due to Corona. Everyone was able to do their best under the loud cheers of the many parents. At the finish, the children were welcomed by many hard-working helpers.
This year, the school with the most participants was finally honored again. The Renée-Sintenis elementary school from Frohnau was able to secure the challenge cup again in a row with an unbelievable 174 children!

At 10:45 a.m., the walkers and runners of the main run started the 5 km lap, which the 10 km runners had to complete twice.
Lynn Böttcher (LG Nord Berlin) won the main race in the women’s age group with a great time of 40:10 minutes. In the men’s age group, Paul Taebling was able to win the 10km run in 35:24 minutes and clearly (distance to second place over 4 minutes) to the podium.

We congratulate all graduates on their personal results and wish you a successful season.

At this point, a big thank you again to all the helpers who were there with full commitment even on a Sunday morning! We would also like to thank the IKK Berlin-Brandenburg, who put a smile on many children’s faces with mascot Kiki, Carsten Schlangen (Vice European Champion over the 1,500m 2010), who presented the joint running camp at SC Tegeler Forst, and with Uwe Brockhausen (district mayor of Berlin-Reinickendorf), who supported us during the award ceremony and found words of praise from young and old to appropriately express the achievements of everyone.
